Step 4 : Kitchen & storages

As mentioned earlier, despite the small size of our van, we opted for an interior kitchen. In a country like New Zealand where the weather is often rainy, it seemed to be the only viable option. In addition, we have two side doors that we chose not to condemn, which allows us to benefit a cross ventilation while we do the cooking.

Initially we took the measures to create our main wooden structure in order to welcome the two 25-liter compulsory water-tank, one for clear water, the other for grey water. Then we installed our sink, which is nothing but a dog bowl that we pierced in order to place a bung and a syphon, the sinks already made were terribly expensive. We installed everything it with a suitable glue and then we did the same with our manual faucet.

To make it easier for you to use your sink, choose wisely the width, depth and elevation of your faucet to make sure you can fill, at minimum, a pan without difficulty.

Then we installed two removable side shelves with hinges and magnets, then a wider table mounted on shelf rails and retained in the closed position by magnets. When the whole thing is closed, it keeps safe all the stuff that we could have left on our work plan when we are on the road.

To facilitate the maintenance of our kitchen, we have covered all our supports with the same vinyl that used for our floor.

Finally, and in order to optimize the use of space, we have created a custom shelf, which we have compartmentalized in order to properly maintain our products while we move. We attached it in three points, directly in the interior body of the van. Finally, we bought two storage bins with wheels, which slip under the sofa bed and are held by a tensioner.
